Gorgan University Of Agricultural Sciences And Natural Resources Which Is Gorgan University In This Guidance Is The First Specialized Agricultural University Throughout The Country. The university was Founded In 1957 When It Was Introduced As The Junior College Of Forestry And Range Management. Following The Outgrow Of The College, In 1975 It Was Expanded As The School Of Natural Resources Offering Three Courses Of Study In Forestry, Range Management, And Soil Conservation. But In 1981 It Began A New Development By Joining Up With Mazandaran University As A College Of Natural Resources. According To An Approval Passed By The ?Couuncil Of Academic Development? In 1986, The College And The Junior College Of Agriculture (In The City Of Gonbad, Founded In 1985) Joined Together To Form An Independent Academic Institute As The Academic Complex Of Agricultural Sciences And Natural Resources. As A Result Of Both Physical And Qualitative Development, And According To An Approval Passed By ?The Council Of Academic Development Of The Ministry Of Science, Research And Technology? On June 25, 1992, A New Life Took Its Present Legal Entity As Gorgan University Of Agricultural Sciences And Natural Resources (G.U.A.S.N.R.). Today The University Has 10 Colleges, More Than 120 Academic Staff, And 2800 Students. Dedicated To The Belief That Iran Has The Reputation Of Being One Of The Pioneers Of Culture And Civilization Which Has Offered The World Eminent Noble Scholars, She Would Deserve A High Quality Education. Gorgan University Strives To Create An Atmosphere Conductive To The Free Exchange Of Ideas Between Motivated Faculty Members And Students. The University, Whose Aim Is To Foster Excellence In Both On And Off-Campus Programs, Is More Than A Collection Of Classrooms, It Is An Institution In Which Learning Becomes An Exciting And Life Long Challenge And Opportunity. Gorgan University Fulfills Its Purpose By Providing A Wide Range Of Undergraduate And Postgraduate Programs In Numerous Courses Of Study Leading To The Bachelor (B.Sc.), Masters (M. Sc.) And Doctorate (Ph. D) Degrees. It Aims To Develop Among Graduate Students Specialized Knowledge And Skills Through Seminars, Independent Study And Research. However The University Main Focus Is To Train Experts In The Fields Of Agriculture And Natural Resources Who Are Able To Direct The Agribusiness As Efficiently Throughout The Country. The University Is Located In Gorgan, Where Is The Capital City Of Golestan Province, Which Has Been Become A State Form 1997. Golestan Province Is Considered As One Of The Most Important Agriculture And Forestry Areas Of The Country. This Region With An Area Of 22033 Sq km. And A Population Of 1145000 People Is Located In The South- East Of The Caspian Sea. Other Special Features Of The Region Include The Following: 44 Kinds Of Crops, 800000 hec. Of Pasture Land And 350000 hec. Of Forest And, A Beautiful Golestan National Park. Gorgan Is The Capital City Of Golestan Province. Gorgan Is Historical City With Brilliant Scientific, Artistic, And Cultural Background. The Historic Name Of The Region Was ?Starabad? Which Was Originated From Istar (Literally Meaning Angle And Star From Kingdom Of Sassanian). Gorgan Itself Has Been A Seat Of Religion And Education For The Over 5000 Years, Amonastery Having Been Founded Here In The 18th Century On The Site Of The Imamzadeh Noor?s Shrine. Presently, This Historical City Is Being Faciliated By Opening New Administration Of Foreign Office For Trade Exchanges Between Iran And The Newly - Independent Countries Of The Former Soviet Union. Therefore It Would Be A Good Opportunity For The Students From Turkamanistan, Ozbakestan And Other Countries Of Asia As Well As The Eastern Countries Of The Former Soviet Union To Pursue Their Studies At This University. This Will Actually Extend A Mutual Relations Of Cultural And Educational Domains Between Iran And These Countries. Recently An Agreement Has Been Signed Between Astarakhan State University (In Russia) And Gorgan University (In Iran) To Cooperate For Ph. D Student Exchanges And Research Programs. Gorgan City Is Located At A Distance Of A 32km From The Seashore And Enjoys A Fairly Moderate Climate Of 17 C As Average Temperature With A Rainfall Of 640mm Per Year. For A Community Of Some 90000 Inhabitants, It Enjoys A Diverse Range Of Shops, Restaurants, Mosques And Recreational Forest Park Called ? Naharkhoran?.
