Agronomy

The Department of Agronomy started its scientific activity as the first educational department from the agricultural departments of the university in 1989 under the title of "Agronomy and Plant Breeding" Department by undergraduate students’ admission in the field of"Agronomy and Plant Breeding. Of course, since 2006, students have been admitted to the bachelor's program with two majors, "Agronomy" and "Plant Breeding." Currently, in this department, students are admitted in the bachelor's degree in production engineering and plant genetics." It should be noted that since 2007, the Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding was separated into two independent educational departments named "Agronomy" and "Plant Breeding and Biotechnology".

In 1994, the Department of Agronomy admitted students for the Master's equivalent course, during which a number of experts from the Agriculture Organization engaged in their studies. The admission of students in the master's course in agronomy started through the national exam in 1996. With the development of the department and the increase in the number of academic members, the Ministry of Science agreed to the request of the group to students’ admission in the master's course in agricultural ecology, and the first group of students of the mentioned course were admitted in October 2009. In addition, in the continuation of the group's postgraduate education development strategy, after receiving the approval in principle from the Ministry of Science, students will be admitted to the master's course in "Weed Identification and Control" from October 2013, "Seed Science and Technology" from October 2014, and "Agroecology" from October 2017. Currently, the Department of Agronomy admits students in the five fields of "Agrotechnology-Crops Ecology", "Agrotechnology- Crops Physiology", "Agrotechnology-Weed Science", "Agrotechnology-Seed Science and Technology", and "Agroecology."

In 2004, this department succeeded in receiving permission from the Ministry of Science to admit students in the doctoral degree in the field of agronomy. Also, with the approval of the respective ministry, from October 2012, the admission of students in the doctoral course of agronomy in the three fields of "Crops Physiology", "Crops Ecology", and "Seed Science and Technology" was done separately. Currently, the Department of Agronomy admits students in the three fields of "Agrotechnology-Crops Ecology", "Agrotechnology- Crops Physiology, and"Agroecology."

Currently, this educational department is working with the combination of academic members consist of two professors, six associate professors, and one assistant professor. The academic members of this department have managed to publish more than 50 book titles and hundreds of articles in prestigious domestic and foreign scientific-research journals. Currently, about 250 students are studying in this department in bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.
