Rangeland Management

The Department of Rangeland Management was established in the Gorgan College of Natural Resources that has evolved from the school of forest management in 1982 to educate experts to accept responsibilities in different range management aspects either in governmental or private sectors. From the day of its establishment, the department of Range Management has trained many young men and women from Bachelor’s degree to Ph.D. Levels.

Today, the department has expanded its education and research focus from the mere managing grazing activities of herbivores to maintaining or improving animal and plant production to the host of ecosystem services that rangelands provide to humans. The aims of education and research activities thus broadened to include key management components to optimize such goods and services.

At present, the department of Range Management has 2 Emeritus professor and 8 constant academic members (including 3 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, and 2 Assistant Professors) that took the responsibility of educating students in three disciplines: B.Sc. in Range and Watershed Management, M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Range Management and Range Sciences respectively.

Department of Range Management benefits from 3 labs and 3 experimental fields of its own along with other facilities provided by other departments and research stations of the Forest and Range Organization through close collaboration between education and executive sectors that are offered throughout the country.
